Planet Earth was left in ashes after an interplanetary war at the dawn of the twenty-first century, with much of its biosphere completely devastated. Because living a regular life on this world is no longer viable, the residents are compelled to relocate to other planets where life will hopefully be more comfortable. The Deep Galactic Trade Organization, a totalitarian government that governs many of the newly populated planets, has decided that music is a source of evil and that it must be forbidden and eliminated forever. AKB0048, a talent group modeled on the original AKB48 members who once resided on Earth, is created soon after. Despite the fact that their music is now widely deemed unlawful, they continue to produce it.
